[Letter] 1850 Nov. 18, Boston : [to] C. Allen and G.C. Nightingale, Providence, R.I. / [from] I.L. Hughes.

The letter is written on letterhead of the Boston Manufacturers Mutual Fire Insurance Co. It notes that the company has received an application for cotton mills at Bernon Village and discusses the need for insurance and for a watchman at each mill. Bernon Village was one of six mill villages which in 1888 became the city of Woonsocket, R.I. It contained mills of the Woonsocket Mill Co., formed in 1832 by Sullivan Dorr and Crawford Allen.
